A Registered Professional Here to Guide You
Hello! I’m Cymone Damon, a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist with growURpotential. I am Bay Area native (East Bay), HBCU graduate, owner of two rescues affectionately named Anubis and Anput, a Millennial, and love serving my community.
My background is pretty broad, but I mainly got into the field like most people as I wanted to help others. However, I truly wanted to understand why people do the things they do. I have been working in community mental health since 2018 with a primary focus on children and families in the San Gabriel Valley as well as Southeast LA. I have to be honest; children are not a primary focus of mine, but I have knowledge and resources to help parents in need. Prior to 2018, I received training at Casa Treatment Center in Pasadena running groups and individual sessions with adult women working through substance abuse.
I also have experience as a residential coordinator for two treatment centers, Resilience Treatment Center and Reconnect Psychological Services, both located in West Los Angeles. My most challenging yet rewarding experience volunteering for the Rape Trauma Center in Burlingame, CA as a peer advocate to assist individuals at the hospital and on a crisis hotline. Lastly, I have volunteered at AIDS Project LA working primarily with gay and transgender folks in assisting them with community and medical resources.
I received my MA in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pacific Oaks College in 2018 and my BS in Psychology from Prairie View A&M University in 2012. I currently reside in Los Angeles, CA with my two pups and fiancé who is also a mental health therapist.
All About Therapy
Individualized Treatment for Your Growth
My focus with each client is to collaborate on the best care while also assisting to deepen their focus and understanding of themselves. I utilize a number of techniques that focus on reducing negative coping skills by increasing self-awareness. Some of those skills include thought reframing, mindfulness, understanding irritational thoughts, building better boundaries, and enhancing communication.
The clients that tend to want to work with me include (but not limited to) those who are experiencing life transitions (i.e. adulting, new relationships, or parenting for example), issues stemming from childhood, behaviors they have that are no longer serving them, fears, overwhelming anxiety or thoughts, and the black hole (aka depression).
My clients also tend to struggle with boundaries, self-esteem issues, body image/weight issues, lack of assertiveness or too much aggression, a fear a speaking up for themselves, or just plain feeling stuck.
